The ministry provides an environment for Christian health care professionals to affirm their faith in Jesus Christ as the Great Physician and to emulate His character through acts of compassion, benevolence, competence, honesty and humility. It places the local church on the front lines in meeting the needs common to everyone, and demonstrates that one's physical needs are just as important to the Body of Christ as so-called spiritual needs. Although the majority of believers may continue to receive medical services through traditional physician practice, clinics, etc., by instituting a congregational nursing ministry the local church takes an important step toward giving Christian medical professionals a platform for being a dissident voice in medicine.
