Beautiful Eggs for Sale

Ethical controversies in medicine are a regular occurrence these days. One recent example is the Internet website posted by a California photographer featuring an online auction for the ova (eggs) of models. Several media sources reported that people were bidding up to $100,000 for the egg of a "beautiful" woman in order to enhance their chances of having a "beautiful" child. (I am reminded of the Proverb: "Like a gold ring in a pig's snout, so is a beautiful woman that lacks discretion" Proverbs 11:22). This bizarre story held our attention for a few days, but soon died as other matters took its place in the spotlight.
